**Scenic Drive from Guwahati to Shillong**
Your Meghalaya experience begins with a scenic road journey from Guwahati towards Shillong. The approximately 100-kilometre drive takes around 3 hours under normal conditions, although hill-road travel can take longer depending on traffic, weather and road conditions. As the journey progresses, the landscape gradually changes from the plains around Guwahati to the greener and more elevated surroundings of Meghalaya. This drive is an important part of the experience rather than simply a transfer, offering an introduction to the hills and natural character of the region. On arrival in Shillong, proceed to your selected hotel for check-in and some time to relax after the journey.

**Umiam Lake / Barapani**
En route to Shillong, visit Umiam Lake, also known as Barapani, a scenic water body surrounded by green hills. The peaceful setting makes it a natural stop during the journey, giving travellers an opportunity to pause, enjoy the surrounding landscape and take photographs. Proceed for the famous Double Decker Living Root Bridge Trek, one of the distinctive experiences of this Meghalaya itinerary. The trek takes you through lush natural surroundings and provides an opportunity to experience the living root bridge, traditionally created by guiding the roots of rubber trees. Unlike a conventional bridge built from manufactured materials, the living root bridge reflects a traditional interaction between local communities and the natural environment. **Scenic Jungle Trek**
The trekking experience generally takes around 3–4 hours, depending on fitness level and walking conditions. The route involves walking through natural surroundings and requires a reasonable level of physical fitness. Travellers should be prepared for a more active day than the sightseeing days of the itinerary, with the exact experience influenced by weather and local trail conditions.

**Return & Relaxation**
After completing the trek, return to the hotel and spend the remainder of the day relaxing. The evening can be used to recover after the walking experience and enjoy a slower pace at the hotel.

Begin the day with a visit to the Garden of Caves, a distinctive natural attraction around the Cherrapunjee region. The site combines caves, waterfalls, rock formations and greenery, creating a varied natural environment to explore before beginning the longer drive towards Guwahati.

**Scenic Journey to Guwahati**
After sightseeing, continue towards Guwahati, covering approximately 150 kilometres in around 5 hours under normal conditions. Road travel through the region can be affected by weather, traffic and road conditions, so actual journey time may vary. As the journey progresses, the landscape gradually transitions from the hill country around Cherrapunjee towards Guwahati.

**Guwahati Arrival & Leisure**
On arrival in Guwahati, check in to your selected hotel and take some time to relax after the road journey. Depending on arrival time and operational schedules, you may choose to spend the evening at leisure or proceed for the optional Brahmaputra River Cruise.

**Kamakhya Temple – Subject to Time Availability**
If time permits before departure, visit Kamakhya Temple, an important pilgrimage destination in Guwahati. The visit can provide a spiritual conclusion to the journey before your transfer to the airport or railway station. As this is the departure day, the visit depends entirely on your flight/train timing, traffic conditions and temple operating schedule.

**Departure Transfer**
After the optional temple visit, proceed to Guwahati Airport / Railway Station for your onward journey. The private vehicle transfer marks the end of your Meghalaya and Assam experience.
